چکیده

The ocean bottom morphology, depth, sediment grain size, sorting, carbonate content, and water depth are used to compose seafloor maps as support for biological studies. Sediments reworked by waves currents accumulate according the hydrodynamic level on continental shelf. In contrast, sediments accumulated pelagic settling, mass wasting, turbidity flows, boundary slope. Sea oscillations during Quaternary also played an important role in modifying shelf seabed's morphology sedimentary mosaic composition. work addresses these topics Santos Basin based extensive bathymetric data, shallow seismic records, stratified samples depths ranging from 25 2,400m, part of Regional Environmental Characterization Project (PCR-BS). main objective is provide broad background information sedimentology Basin, focusing supply, orientation, climate imprint Basin's characteristics. Northern sector most dynamic because narrow shelf, steep gradient, East-West shoreline providing conditions storm approach mobilize than 50 m depth. Southern much broader sector; it displays a gentler its orientation Northeast-Southwest; therefore, less subject sector.

Diversity and Distribution Patterns of Cetaceans in the Subtropical Southwestern Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf and Slope

Temporal and spatial patterns of cetacean diversity and distribution were investigated through eight ship-based surveys carried out during spring and autumn between 2009 and 2014 on the outer continental shelf (~150m) and slope (1500m) off southeastern and southern Brazil (~23°S to ~34°S). The survey area was divided into southeast and south areas according to their oceanographic characteristic...

Acoustic Propagation in Continental Shelf Break and Slope Environments

There were two main objectives of the current research. The first objective was to complete a final numerical implementation of a statistical inference approach based on a maximum entropy formalism. The second objective was to combine the waveguide parameter statistical inferences with geophysical data from the Shallow Water 2006 (SW06) experiment on the New Jersey continental shelf to model ra...

Sediment Movement on the Continental Shelf near Washington and Oregon.

The nuclides zinc-65 and cobalt-60 associated with river-borne particulate matter are incorporated in sediment on the Continental Shelf near the Colum- ia River. Changes in the relative concentrations of zinc-65 and cobalt-60 and in the ratio of the activity of zinc-65 and cobalt-60 suggest that radioactive sediment moves northward 12 to 30 kilometers per year along the shelf and 2.5 to 10 kilo...

Trichodesmium Erythraeum Bloom on the Continental Shelf off Santos, Southeast Brazil

The Trichodesmium erythraeum is a common colonial marine cyanobacterium in tropical and subtropical oceans. Several authors have reported its importance for the fixation of both atmospheric C and N (CAPONE; CARPENTER, 1982; ZEHR et al., 2001; LUGOMELA et al., 2002; CAPONE et al., 2005). According to Carpenter and Romans (1991), nitrogen fixation by Trichodesmium cells represents an important in...

Phytoplankton distribution across the southeast Adriatic continental and shelf slope to the west of Albania (spring aspect).

We present the first insight to the oceanography of the southeastern Adriatic Sea, where coastal water influenced by Albanian rivers comes into contact with the inflowing oligotrophic Eastern Adriatic Current (Ionian Surface Water and Levantine Intermediate Water). A distinct plankton distribution was observed on each side of the shelf break hydrographic boundary in May 2009, during gradual war...
